Our Mission
Aurora Energy Advisors is a full-service energy management and consulting firm dedicated to helping real estate owners and managers control costs, stay compliant with evolving energy laws, and build long-term sustainability strategies.
Our team develops customized energy plans for each portfolio, combining smart procurement strategies with proactive compliance and efficiency solutions. While we employ innovative approaches to electricity and natural gas procurement to provide flexibility and budget stability, our services go far beyond contract procurement. We provide ongoing monitoring of utility invoices for errors, rate class adjustments, meter reads and latent problems within portfolio patterns.
On the compliance and sustainability side, Aurora conducts thorough reviews of every building’s status under local energy laws, including detailed Local Law 97 assessments. We develop actionable strategies to reduce carbon emissions and upgrade building systems over time. By simplifying complex regulations and delivering clear, cost-effective solutions, we help clients minimize risk, avoid penalties, and achieve long-term energy efficiency goals.
Our Leadership Team
Mitchell Ingerman
PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER
Mitchell founded Aurora Energy Advisors in 2007 and has been instrumental in its growth into one of the nation’s leading utility and energy management consulting firms. Drawing on 40 years of executive experience in the energy and real estate industries, he provides strategic oversight of the firm’s operations and guides its continued expansion.
Prior to founding Aurora, Mitchell served for 22 years as Senior Vice President of Asset Management, Administration, and Treasurer for one of the largest real estate organizations in the United States. In that role, he initiated and implemented energy strategies for a $5 billion residential and commercial portfolio, achieving substantial operational and cost efficiencies.
Joseph Weitz
DIRECTOR OF ENERGY MANAGEMENT
Joseph oversees the company’s comprehensive energy management and compliance operations. He leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing and executing strategies that help clients optimize building performance, control operating costs, and meet evolving energy and carbon regulations. His work spans energy procurement, Local Law compliance, and long-term cost management planning across a broad portfolio of residential, commercial, and institutional properties.
Over nearly two decades with Aurora, Joseph has played a key role in the firm’s sustained growth and expansion across the Northeast and beyond. He has helped shape Aurora’s strategic direction, broaden its service offerings, and strengthen client relationships through tailored strategies that drive operational and financial performance. His deep industry expertise and nuanced understanding of energy markets have established him as a trusted advisor to many of the region’s leading real estate owners and operators.
Joseph holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Brooklyn College.
Sean Stettin
DIRECTOR OF SUSTAINABILITY AND COMPLIANCE
Sean started his career at Aurora Energy Advisors in 2011. He plays a key role at the company where he combines his financial background with deep expertise in energy markets. He helped establish Aurora’s sustainability division, Aurora Solutions, and leads the firm’s work in energy efficiency and local law compliance. Sean also oversees national energy procurement efforts, develops comparison pricing models, and has tracked energy commodity rates for more than a decade.
Since joining Aurora, Sean has been instrumental in expanding the company’s service offerings and delivering cost-effective solutions to clients navigating an increasingly complex energy landscape.
Sean holds a dual degree in Finance and Global Management from Binghamton University, State University of New York. Beyond his professional work, he has a passion for travel and enjoys discovering new cultures, places, and perspectives.
Jared Ingerman
DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Jared is responsible for a wide range of activities including financial operations and the oversight of day-to-day company functions. He also has expertise in core business areas spanning supply contract procurement, utility cost management, local energy law compliance, and energy efficiency solutions.
Prior to joining Aurora, Jared enjoyed a successful career in real estate acquisitions and asset management. He held positions with several prestigious firms, including AIG in its Global Real Estate group, as well as New York City-based private equity firm Mercer Street Partners. These roles exposed him to the complex challenges faced by real estate owners and management companies, giving him valuable insight into how to best meet the needs of Aurora’s client base.
Jared holds a BS in Finance with a concentration in Real Estate from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Ari Brecher
DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL SERVICES
Ari is a dynamic leader in energy procurement and real estate strategy, with a proven track record of driving efficiency and innovation for high-stakes portfolios. Since joining Aurora, he has assisted clients across all deregulated states with comprehensive services, including energy procurement, cost management planning, usage and cost analysis, and customized sustainability initiatives. In addition to spearheading the company’s national expansion and the development of its growing portfolio, Ari has elevated Aurora’s reporting and analytics capabilities by integrating AI and cutting-edge technologies to deliver actionable insights at scale.
Prior to joining the team at Aurora, he honed his expertise at a premier NYC real estate consulting firm, where he built a strong foundation in navigating complex financial landscapes for property owners. Additionally, as the manager of a family office focused on real estate investments, he brings a dual perspective as both a service provider and an investor in the sector. This unique blend of experiences equips him with deep insights into the energy needs of real estate owners, enabling innovative strategies that optimize efficiency, sustainability, and cost savings across diverse portfolios.
Dustin Kopel
DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND CLIENT SERVICES
Dustin is responsible for a wide range of activities including the handling of key client relations, new business development and mentoring of junior level staff. His expertise spans all core business areas, from supply contract procurement and utility cost management to energy law compliance and efficiency initiatives.
Dustin started his professional career at Aurora Energy Advisors in 2011 with the introduction of NYC Local Law 84. While Dustin’s path included stops at other leading energy companies, he ultimately came back to Aurora with experience in Demand Response, fuel oil and boiler operations. By combining these experiences, Dustin has been able to evolve into one of the most dynamic energy professionals in the New York Metropolitan area.
Dustin holds a BS in Business Management with a concentration in Marketing from Brooklyn College.
